The Jutes

The Jutes are supposed to have left their name in modern Jutland (it contains a word Jótar) With a little difficulty, they can be connected with Bede's Iutae. This may be the first mention of them as a nation or tribe, unless the Saxones Eucii mentioned in a letter of Theodebert I, King of the Franks, to Justinian (which dates to 534-548) and the Euthiones mentioned as being between the Danes and Saxons by Venantius Fortunatus (Carmina IX i.73) later in the sixth century are the same people.
