According to Geoffrey in his Historia, Dubricius was Archbishop of Caerleon at the time of Arthur's coronation. Other evidence makes him a bishop and possibly abbot of Caldey Isle. Now classified as a Celtic saint, he is purported to have died about the year 550CE. Norma Lorre Goodrich and others have sought to identify him with Merlin.
