The Alans
According to Dr. Malcor, 'the Alans came
into Gaul in two waves. The first arrived in 406CE and split in two. Part
settled in Brittany, part settled in Spain. The second group arrived in
414CE and settled in Southern Gaul. The Alans of Brittany held the center
of the line at Chalons against Attila, not for him, and used the feigned
retreat tactic to win the battle for their side, stopping Attila's
advance. The Alans, as a whole, did have extensive contact with the Huns;
but the ones who fought for Attila were not the Alans of Gaul.' |
