Ablamar of the Marsh

    In the Quest of the White Hart, Ablamar claimed to be the owner of the White Hart, given him by his love. When he kills several of Gawaine's greyhounds driving them away from the hart, Gawaine becomes angry. A challenge is made and after a furious fight, the knight cries mercy. But in Gawaine's anger, he refuses and readies to kill him. The knight's lady rushes from a side room and Gawaine kills her instead. The knight is distraught and is finally forced by Gawaine to journey to Camelot with one of the dead greyhounds in front and one behind him. Gawaine will also receive punishment for his failure to show mercy.
